Good for you.
FYI – The most commonly Fined, Suspended, or Revoked LTC Instructor’s license is that of a Current or Former Law Enforcement. This is because they have a lot of knowledge and try to put more into their program than what can be done in 4 hours. This more often than not causes them to leave out important information.
As for them being former Marines: Remember what “Former Marines” have done – Killed John F. Kennedy – Shot innocent people from the top of the Whitman Tower in Austin – Killed Chris Kyle – Shot 25 innocent people at California Country Bar – ….. and to add to this, the fact that a “Former Marine” became a Somali Warlord that helped kill Christians and take young girls to rape and make sex slaves.
Law Enforcement train to use the following business model: “I ask you, I tell you, I beat the snot out of you and make you do it.” While that works for criminals, it is not a good way to approach regular people.
This does not necessarily mean that your instructor is a bad instructor…. But it should be cause for concern.
I am a former U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership Instructor, a former Instructor for the Texas Private Security Bureau, a former Instructor the Texas Department of Health, a former Instructor for the Texas Commission for Fire Protection, an Instructor for the National Rifle Association, and Instructor for the Texas 4H youth programs, and currently working as a substitute teacher for the local High School. I am a retired Professional Firefighter, Retired License Vocational Nurse, Retired Emergency Medical Technician, and former Deputy Sheriff. I have been teaching the Texas Concealed Carry and the new License to Carry program for more than 15 years now and I have written a manual for the program that is used by many of Texas Instructors.
Think about that when you are looking for an instructor that will teach you about the Texas License to Carry Program.
